Anne Groenewege
At the age 11 I got my first saxophone. It was a very old, not so functional instrument but I had a blast! My parents were not so fond of the noise coming out of my bedroom everyday. So they sent me to the local windband for some classes. There I was allowed to do an exam within a few months to join the orchestra. After just years of playing there with lots of fun someone mentioned the Conservatory in Rotterdam. He suggested to go to their open day, talk with the saxophone teacher there and play something for him. Before I knew it I was registered for the audition for the preparatory school and had to play for all these amazing classical musicians in my audition. After 2 years of prep school I got accepted to the Bachelors of Music, studying with saxophonist Tom de Vette. In my last 2 years of my Bachelors I studied with Arno Bornkamp and finally in the summer of 2006 I graduated!
A few weeks later I moved to Boston, MA, USA. Here I studied at the Boston Conservatory with saxophonist Ken Radnofsky and in 2008 I obtained my Graduate Performance Degree.
During my GPD I developed a deep interest in Contemporary Improvisation thanks to my professor Pierre Hurel and the interaction with my fellow students.
In 2009 I came back to Holland after 2,5 yrs of foreign experiences to make a living with music and teaching. I play and sub in several ensembles and orchestras, I teach music and saxophone, I give workshops in Contemporary Improvisation and I conduct an windband.
I feel very honored to get the opportunity to give contemporary improvisation workshops in the city where it all started for me!
