Akane Inoue (Oboe)
Akane Inoue Setiawan, native of Kyoto Japan, came abroad to study oboe at the age of 18. As a young musician, she whole-heartedly embraced Boston and all it had to offer. Now a prominent freelance musician and teacher in the New England area, she is an active soloist, chamber player and orchestral musician. Akane is principal oboe of the Cape Ann Symphony and a member of the Lexington Symphony and Neponset Valley Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, New Bedford Symphony, Indian Hill Symphony Orchestra, Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Nashua Symphony Orchestra. An active chamber musician, she has played with ensembles such as the New England Baroque Soloists, a highly acclaimed ensemble with members from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and former members of Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Setiawan is also an accomplished English horn player and in May of 09, she was one of two finalists for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra's English horn position. In a recent concert review of the Lexington Symphony, Marvin J. Ward from Classical Voice of New England wrote, "All the musicians who had solo moments played them memorably; oboist Akane Inoue Setawian’s solo was sublime".
Akane's oboe and English horn mentors are Mr. Keisuke Wakao, Ms. Kyoko Hida, Mr. Robert Sheena, and Mr. Ray Still.
